Whole Brain Communication

Whole Brain Communication

Presentations and explanations typically overwhelm an audience’s limited capacity for new information, by directing it to a limited part of the brain. Designed by a Cognitive Science professor, Whole Brain Communication taught me effective visual and verbal communication techniques to present data-driven arguments.

Throughout the quarter, I learned how to communicate to the whole brain, by turning verbal messages to salient visuals, expressing abstract numbers as sensorimotor objects, and telling immersive stories. The techniques we explored are grounded in cognitive science – why our brains are limited in perceiving, learning, and storing information – as well as research in data visualization, and graphic design.

Graphic Re-Design

When matriculating at Kellogg, I joined the Wellness Club, which offers programs and information that cultivate the mind, body, and soul. Upon joining, I noticed that the flier used to promote KWC during the annual club fair was outdated, and uninspiring. I felt like this could be a good opportunity to practice my newly acquired ‘Whole-Brain’ skills, and so I took it upon myself to re-design the flier to be more engaging. See below!
